Someone contacted me from flickr wanting to purchase one of my images to be used on the cover of their product catalog.  Here is the specific quote from the message:

"We would like to get your permission to use it for the front of our catalog. We are based in Suwanee and would like to show our customers a piece of this area. Let me know. Thanks"

Ok, I almost never sell any of my images and to be honest, I don't care about getting "exposure" from seeing my name in the photo credit.  I am past that now and really take images just for my enjoyment.  However, I feel that if you want to use one of my images, especially for your commercial purposes, then it's time to share in my cost involved in getting the shot.

With that in mind, I was thinking of sending this e-mail, what do you think:

Thanks for contacting me about my Suwanee City Park image.  Normally for a publication like a catalog, we would need to discuss the scope of the circulation.  However, to make this simple here is the pricing:

·         $100 for the digital image

o   To be used on the front of the catalog, one run only (when a new version of the catalog is created, another use license will need to be granted)

o   PDF version of the catalog cover with my image can be displayed on your various social media outlets

o   Photo credit needs to be given

o   Image can NOT be offered for sale to other parties

o   Image can NOT be given to other parties, except as it relates to the creation of the catalog

·         $500 for the digital image

o   No limit on future uses, except

§  image can NOT be offered for sale to other parties

§  image can NOT be given to other parties, except as it relates to the creation of the catalog

·         $1,500 for digital image

o   Exclusive rights to image, other than it’s current uses

§  Image will not be licensed to another party

o   No limit on future uses, except

§  image can NOT be offered for sale to other parties

§  image can NOT be given to other parties, except as it relates to the creation of the catalog

Let me know which option best fits your needs.

Mike Howard

Thought I would leave an update.  As noted above, I sent the message to them.  As of now, they have not responded.  Which I take it means they wanted FREE use of the image on the cover of their catalog.
